My fields of expertise include Science Fiction, Identity and the Speculative Imagination, The African American Novel, Identity in the African Diaspora, Difference Studies, Otherness in an American Context, Identity and Representation, Multicultural and Anti-Racist Pedagogy, Popular Cultures, and using literature to affect real world changes. I also have secondary interests in Anti-Racist Pedagogy, Pedagogies of Composition Instruction, Instruction Methodologies for the College Classroom, Writing Assessment, Pedagogies of College Literature, Undergraduate Mentoring, Graduate Student Teacher Mentoring, Assessment Scaffolding, Balancing Writing Instruction in the Literature Classroom, Distance Learning.

My current projects include an exploration into the best pedagogical approaches for teaching science fiction, a search for new ways to rapidly contextualize students—during a literature class—on necessary aspects of African American history, and a list of best practices for expanding the learning interface into office hours
