We are excited to inform you of the University of Pittsburgh’s First Undergraduate Conference in Literature sponsored by the Literature Program. We envision this conference as an opportunity to showcase the work that our advanced students completed in their junior and senior seminars. Moreover, the conference will also celebrate the students who have received writing awards from the Literature Program. We expect faculty members and other students (and perhaps some parents) to attend the event.
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU:
- Please publicize the event in your class and encourage students to submit proposals based on the paper they write in your seminar.
- Also encourage students from previous years to submit a proposal.
- Please remind students of the deadline for proposals and how to submit them: Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis between December 5 and March 5 and should be submitted via e-mail to twyning@pitt.edu. Specific instructions for doing so can be found on the conference’s website: INSERT HERE
- Please help students with writing proposals and revising their long seminar papers into shorter papers (7-8 pages, 15 minutes) for presentation and/or direct them to the Proposal Workshop—Thursday, November 15, 2007 1-2:30PM, in the English Department, Room CL 512—for help and more information about the conference.
- Please let students know that they can propose a full panel and not just individual papers.
- Please encourage students to get involved in the conference in ways other than as presenters (e.g., serve as organizers of the conference, respondents and/mediators on the panels).
- Please schedule 10 minutes or so in class toward the end of the term so that a representative from the Conference Committee can come to answer any questions students may have and to encourage students to participate. You will be contacted by a representative by November 12 and the visit will occur before Thanksgiving break.
- Please distribute flyers to students.
If you have any questions please contact John Twyning at (412) 624-4114 or twyning@pitt.edu.
